Though Court/Ship was photographed in color, I always knew that it was going to be published in black and white, and I’m so pleased with the results of this shoot. This is the largest shoot I’ve ever done, the most people, the most costumes, the most preparation overall.
Just to give you an idea, we started makeup at 10am but didn’t start shooting until 6pm. It was a long day, with seven models requiring the work of two makeup artists, and a variety of wigs, costumes and gowns. Each model needed help getting into their extensive outfits, wigs and accessories.
What I’m saying is: It was Hella Fun.
I really enjoy these kinds of shoots. Court/Ship, Heroine, the kind of photoshoot that let me go wild, that lets me create things that only existed in my imagination in my real life – if only for a few seconds.
The challenge with these shoots is that even though I love doing them, they require a budget. Money. They aren’t something I can just run out and do – I need to employ other artists, get the right space – these things cost money.
I don’t have another shoot like this planned for the future. There might be smaller ones, less people, less costumes, but these shoots require a budget to pull off. To do what I love, I need money. So it’s unlikely that there will be much of this in the future.
Unless someone hires me.
I hope that you enjoy these photos as much as I enjoyed taking them. I worked with a coalition to make this happen – a fashion designer, models and makeup artists. All of us worked to make this happen.
